About Us

Majority Rules, originally known as LATE ARRIVAL, has been performing together since 2006. The group was formed to provide one evening’s entertainment at a Habitat for Humanities concert, at a local church. This provided us with our gospel roots, and set the stage for a return engagement in 2007. This time we decided that once a year was just not enough, so we vowed to make it permanent! We strive to entertain audiences with a variety of music, all sung in four part harmony. Majority Rules hopes you enjoy our performance, as it truly comes from the heart.

LEAD: Paul Stickney is an active musical theater performer, in Maine, N.H., and  FL. He toured for 2 ½ years, as the “indian”, in The Indian in the Cupboard, and can be seen in many NE area commercials. He has sung with the Portland Symphony and is currently director and organist for five choirs in Portland. In addition to maintaining an active private voice and piano studio, he is father to 3 girls and husband to Karen for 20+ years. Majority Rules is his first barbershop experience.

TENOR: Steve Barden has been involved in choral music since grade school. He has been quarteting since high school, and has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 10 years. He has sung with the Portland Downeasters Chorus, several award winning quartets, and  provides coaching to NE area quartets and choruses. Majority Rules is an opportunity to sing with some old friends provide entertainment for our admiring fans!

BARI: Phil Newth lives in Bowdoin with his wife and children. Phil has been singing in various quartets, and the Portland Downeasters, off an on for the last 18 years beginning with his first quartet at Yarmouth High School where he had the privilege of singing the Star Spangled Banner at his graduation.

BASS: Jim Fortin  began singing barbershop in 1978 at the ripe old age of 17, right out of High School. His quartet interest began while at the University of Maine. He formed his first quartet in 1984 while singing bass with the University Singers and  was fortunate to be able to perform on the choir’s European tour that same year.  His musical experience includes choral, folk, Gospel and even a Praise and Worship band. He says, "Nothing beats the thrill of ringing chords in a barbershop quartet though, and I’ll travel far from my home in Topsham for most any opportunity to do so." So sit back, relax and have a smile on us.
